Job description
Avid Systems is seeking a Senior Radio Frequency Engineer to support the DC Office of Unified Communications. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems and Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) environments, with a strong background in RF design, engineering, and system interoperability.
This is a hands-on technical role requiring strong experience with Motorola systems, codeplug development, RF propagation and interference analysis, and RoIP system design. You’ll support day-to-day operations and strategic planning for mission-critical communications systems used by emergency response agencies across the District.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, program, and test radio codeplugs for Motorola radios
- Coordinate encryption and OTAR upgrades
- Support radio programming and subscriber updates
- Troubleshoot In-Building Wireless (IBW) systems and perform RF field surveys
- Analyze and resolve network interference and coverage issues
- Develop technical training, radio usage guidelines, and IBW approval criteria
- Review IBW proposals for compliance with OUC standards
- Serve as an SME in LMR engineering, design reviews, and regulatory compliance
Qualifications:
- 11+ years as a Subject Matter Expert on enterprise-level technical projects
- 5+ years working in a PSAP environment
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with:
- LMR systems and interoperable radio networks
- Radio coverage analysis and interference resolution
- RF engineering tools such as Wizard and drive-test software
- Motorola User Configuration Manager and public safety codeplug development
- Public safety infrastructure and P25 radio networks
- PSAP operations, LTE, and WiMAX technologies
